Easy Peasy Charm Quilt

Easy Peasy Charm Quilt

When browsing around the pre-cut fabric on Missouri Quilt Company’s website, the Dominicana collection by Timeless Treasures was one that caught my eye, and I ordered 4 of the charm packs. I decided my second quilt was going to be a charm pack, and this fabric collection would be be perfect.

I worked one pack at a time, and laid out the 42 squares that come in each pack into a block that was 6 squares by 7 squares. The four blocks created from the charm packs were sewn together to create a quilt top that was 12 by 14 squares. Since I wanted to have a good sized throw that was about 60” by 70”, I also added a border of solid grey fabric cut into 4” strips to make sure the quilt would be big enough. It took me a while to pick out the fabric for the border and backing as I was looking for a patterned grey fabric, but nothing popped out at me at the fabric stores. Since I couldn't find a patterned fabric that I felt would work with the quilt, I eventually settled on solid grey.

I didn’t want a batting that was too thick and fluffy, so I used Quilters Dream poly batting. I bought the twin sized batting, since my quilt was too big for the throw/lap size. The thickness of this batting was perfect for what I was looking for.

After laying out my quilt layers and basting it together, I opted to stick with stitching in the ditch. Since this is only the second quilt I have finished, I don’t feel ready to free stitch the quilt. Though I might come back to this quilt later and add some decorative stitching along the border.

While I had initially thought a patterned fabric would be best for the border and back, I am quite happy with how the solid grey goes with the colours of the quilt squares.

I loved the easiness of creating a charm pack quilt, and I love the way it looks. I can't wait to make another one.
