Recovering from Christmas

Recovering from Christmas

The last couple months have been crazy busy.  Between being busy at work and working on homemade Christmas gifts, I haven't had any time, until now, to relax or work on my personal craft projects.

I had already planned what I was going to make for Christmas gifts by the summer, but decided 2 months before the holidays that I would make my mom a charm pack quilt for Christmas.  I picked out Moda Fabrics Handmade by Bonnie & Camille, and bought 5 charm packs.  I wanted to make good sized lap quilt that could be draped over a bed.  Thankfully, making the quilt didn't take too long.  I was able to piece all of the charm squares together within 2 weeks, and it took another 2 weeks to baste and stitch the quilt together.  I was pretty proud of myself for getting a quilt done in a month.

While I was working on stitching the lap quilt, I decided to make a holiday table runner for my brother and his wife.  I found this Twisted Pole quilt pattern on Pinterest, and really wanted to make something with it.  I used 1 charm pack of Winter's Grandeur II by Robert Kaufman.  36 5" charm pack squares were used in total, 9 red, 9, green, 18 white/cream for the centre and outsides.  The pattern was created by matching a red or green square with a white/cream square and making half square triangles, and laying out the half square triangles to create the pattern.

I love the way this table runner turned out, and bought myself an Autumn Air charm pack by RJR Fabrics to make a fall themed table runner for my house.

By the time I finished both the quilt and table runner, I was starting to feel burnt out.  Before completely burning out, I managed to whip up a pot holder using fabric from a Riley Blake Comfort & Joy charm pack I had on hand.  I picked out a few squares, which were cut into 2.5" squares, and sewn into strips of 5, with 5 strips in total, 25 squares.

In addition to my quilted gifts, I also made up some edible gifts, including strawberry maple sauce, maple brown sugar pecans, and spicy cocktail peanuts.

Unfortunately, I ran out of time to finish the holiday table runner I was making for myself out of Michael Miller's Christmas at Brambleberry Ridge fabric.  Luckily I have plenty of time to make sure it is finished for next Christmas.

Now that the holidays are over, and I have had some time to relax, it is time to get back to the craft projects I put on hold to make my Christmas gifts.
